Background
Bayview Community Development Corporation (BCDC) is a nonprofit organization founded in 1993 with the goal of improving the quality of life in underserved communities throughout San Diego County. The corporation focuses on providing a variety affordable housing solutions, supporting local businesses, and leading economic development initiatives.
Mission
To serve as a catalyst for improving the economic condition in underserved communities throughout San Diego County by developing affordable housing, business and community opportunities which will create sustainable quality of life.
Vision
Bayview CDC strives to be a premier community economic development organization, recognized for adding strengthening healthy, sustainable neighborhoods throughout southeastern San Diego and the broader region.
Community and Economic Impact
Bayview CDC provides leadership in driving economic growth in neighborhoods that have historically experienced disinvestment relative to other parts of the city. Its core focus areas include, but are not limited to,Mount Hope, Chollas View, Encanto, Emerald Hills, Southcrest, and Mountain View.
We work to strengthen partnerships so the neighborhoods will experience equitable growth by:
Setting a local economic development agenda by identifying priority commercial corridors, target industries, and job-creation opportunities that reflect each neighborhood’s assets and needs rather than applying a generic citywide approach.
Identify early-stage investment opportunities, such as development on vacant lots, commercial rehabilitation projects, or small business incubators, to signal that the area is investable and ready for responsible capital.
Build local capacity so growth benefits existing residents and businesses rather than displacing them. Priorities include supporting representatives of communities of color and women owned businesses, support and advance local hiring agreements, and pairing growth metrics with anti displacement safeguards. Something that has become a serious concern.
Integrate housing and economic development strategies to improve financial outcomes for community residents and local businesses.
